Best Summer Camps in Europe for Teens (Ages 13–18)

Teen camps are a different animal. Your 14-year-old doesn't want the same craft-and-playground experience as an 8-year-old — they want independence, adventure, and experiences that feel grown up. The good news: Europe has some of the best teen camps in the world. These are programs that treat teenagers like the almost-adults they are, with real challenges, real skills, and real freedom (within a safe structure). Here's what I've found.

Adventure & Multi-Activity
Village Camps — Leysin, Switzerland
One of the most well-known international camps in Europe, and for good reason. They accept ages 7–17, but the teen-specific tracks are where it gets interesting. The Leadership Training track is especially popular with older teens — it's designed to build confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving in a Swiss Alps setting that's genuinely stunning. Sessions run 2 weeks, and they draw kids from 75+ countries, so your teen is guaranteed to meet people from everywhere.
Ages: 7–17 | Type: Sleepaway | Language: English | Season: Summer (2-week sessions)
ISC Spain Summer Camps — Madrid
A full-immersion sleepaway experience for ages 13–18 in Madrid. Sessions run 2–4 weeks and include basketball, bowling, cultural appreciation workshops, and day trips around the region. This is for teens who want to live the Madrid life — not just visit it. The residential setup means they're making friends, navigating a new city, and building independence every single day.
Ages: 13–18 | Type: Sleepaway | Language: English/Spanish | Season: Summer (2–4 week sessions)
Language Immersion
Centre International d'Antibes — French Riviera
If your teen wants to actually learn French — not just dabble — this is the real deal. It's a sleepaway camp on the French Riviera for ages 12–17, with separate tracks for 12–15 and 16–17. They do 20 French lessons per week alongside activities like sailing, snorkeling, treetop adventures, and trampoline parks. Weekend excursions go to Monaco and Nice. It runs late June through mid-August and the Riviera setting doesn't hurt.
Ages: 12–17 | Type: Sleepaway | Language: French immersion | Season: Late June–mid August
Did Deutsch-Institut — Oberwesel, Germany
German language immersion in a castle on the Rhine Valley. I mean, come on. Ages 8–14, so this catches the younger teen range, but the setting and structure make it feel special. They run 20–24 German lessons per week alongside activities and excursions. If your teen has any interest in German — or you just want them to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience — this is it.
Ages: 8–14 | Type: Sleepaway | Language: German immersion | Season: Summer
Nacel International Camps — Multiple Countries
This is the most flexible option on the list. Ages 12–19, sleepaway, with language immersion programs in France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, and more. You can choose between host family stays or residential programs depending on how deep your teen wants to go. I love this for older teens who are serious about language learning and want a more independent experience.
Ages: 12–19 | Type: Sleepaway | Language: Various (immersion) | Season: Summer
Sports
AC Milan International Football Camp — Milan
Train with actual AC Milan Youth Team coaches. Ages 8–16, so it covers the younger teen range, but the level of coaching is genuinely elite. There's a residential option that includes trips to Lake Como, which is a nice bonus. If your teen lives and breathes football, this is the dream camp.
Ages: 8–16 | Type: Day or Residential | Language: English/Italian | Season: Summer
Emilio Sánchez Academy — Barcelona
Elite tennis for ages 12–21. This isn't a casual tennis camp — it's serious training at one of Europe's top academies. But they balance it well with language studies and beach trips, so it's not all forehands and fitness drills. Barcelona as a base city doesn't hurt either.
Ages: 12–21 | Type: Residential | Language: English/Spanish | Season: Summer
Village Camps Surf — Santa Cruz, Portugal
A surf-focused sleepaway camp for ages 13–17 on Portugal's Atlantic coast. Beyond daily surf lessons, they do mountain biking, climbing, and hiking. The vibe is active, outdoorsy, and social — exactly what a lot of teens are looking for. Portugal's coast is one of the best surf destinations in Europe, and the camp takes full advantage of it.
Ages: 13–17 | Type: Sleepaway | Language: English | Season: Summer
Sleepaway Adventure
Els Isards — Spanish Pyrenees
A mountain adventure camp for ages 7–14 in the Spanish Pyrenees. Activities include horse riding, archery, kayaking, rock climbing, and speleology (yes, cave exploration). The mountain setting is spectacular, and the program is designed to push kids just enough outside their comfort zone. Great for teens who want something more rugged than a city-based camp.
Ages: 7–14 | Type: Sleepaway | Language: Spanish/English | Season: Summer
St. Peter's Discover Portugal — Palmela
A multi-activity camp for ages 12–17 near Lisbon with both day and residential options. The activity list is impressive: surfing, sailing, kayaking, skating, hip-hop dance, and more. It's a good pick for teens who don't want to specialize — they want to try everything. The residential option builds that independence factor that makes international camp so valuable for this age group.
Ages: 12–17 | Type: Day or Residential | Language: English | Season: Summer
Why International Camp Matters for Teens
I talk to a lot of parents who wonder if international camp is "worth it" for a teenager. Here's what I think:
- Independence in a structured, safe environment. They're making decisions, navigating new situations, and managing their own time — but with a safety net.
- Friends from around the world. Village Camps alone draws from 75+ countries. These friendships change how your teen sees the world.
- Language skills that actually stick. Two weeks of immersion does more than two years of classroom study. I've seen it over and over.
- Resume-worthy experiences. Leadership training in Switzerland, language immersion in France, elite sports coaching in Spain — these stand out on college applications.
- A story they'll tell at every college interview. And at every dinner party for the next decade.
The teens I've talked to who've done international camp universally say it was one of the best experiences of their lives. That's not nothing.
