Fall Camps in Europe for Kids: October & Autumn Half-Term Programs

Children at a fall camp in Europe

Camp isn't just a summer thing — and once I figured that out, it changed how we plan our entire year. Fall and October half-term breaks are a perfect opportunity to give your kids something more enriching than a week of screen time while school is out. Many of the best summer programs run condensed versions during autumn, and some cities have fall-specific options that are even better than their summer counterparts (fewer crowds, cooler weather for outdoor activities, and easier booking).

Here's what I've found across Amsterdam, London, and Edinburgh for fall and half-term camps.

Amsterdam

Little Makers Amsterdam — October Sessions

If you've read my summer camp guides, you know I'm a huge Little Makers fan. The great news is they run their creative program during the October school break too — same arts-focused, hands-on, outdoor-play approach that makes their summer sessions so good, just in a cozier autumn setting. Ages 3–9, day camp format. Amsterdam's October weather is perfectly fine for outdoor play (Dutch kids don't melt in the rain), and the Jordaan neighborhood where Little Makers operates is gorgeous in autumn.

Ajax October Clinics

For the soccer-obsessed kids in your life, Ajax runs youth clinics during the October break with professional coaching at Ajax facilities. If your child spent the summer kicking a ball around European parks, this is the ultimate October follow-up. Training at the facilities of one of Europe's most famous football academies is the kind of experience that keeps kids motivated through the entire school year.

NewTechKids October Sessions

NewTechKids runs tech and maker workshops at Amsterdam's central library (OBA) during school holidays, including October. Various ages welcome. The format is project-based — kids design and build real things using coding, electronics, and fabrication tools. A great option if your child is more maker-space than muddy-field.

London

Little House of Science

Little House of Science runs hands-on STEM day camps during the October half-term across multiple London locations. Ages 4–11 do real science experiments, build things, and get genuinely excited about how the world works. The workshops are themed (think: space week, chemistry week, nature detectives) and designed to feel like play rather than school. If you're in London during half-term and want something educational without being boring, this is my top pick.

Edinburgh

Wild Outdoors October Camps

Wild Outdoors is one of my favorite camp programs in Europe — I featured their summer sessions in my Scotland & Ireland camps guide. They run the same nature-based program during October: archery, bushcraft, campfires, and outdoor adventure for ages 5–11. The difference? Autumn in Scotland is absolutely stunning. The leaves are turning, the air is crisp, and the Scottish countryside is at its most dramatic. Your kids will come home smelling like woodsmoke and talking about the den they built. There's something about doing outdoor camp in fall weather that just hits differently.

Planning Tips for Fall Camps

A few things I've learned about booking half-term and fall programs:

  • Book early. October half-term camps fill up faster than summer because the sessions are shorter and the spots are more limited. If you know your travel dates, don't wait.
  • Check the school calendar. Half-term dates vary by country and even by school. Amsterdam, London, and Edinburgh don't always align, so confirm your specific dates before booking.
  • Layer up. October weather in northern Europe is unpredictable. Pack waterproof layers, warm base layers, and waterproof shoes. Your kids will be outside.
  • Combine camp with travel. A week of October camp gives you a built-in structure for a fall trip — kids are occupied during the day, and you get evenings and weekends to explore the city as a family.
